As you can tell from all the other posts on my blog, I love adding life to my garden - and if I can use the power of the sun to charge the batteries during the day, I can benefit from free lighting at night.  Adding solar animal ornaments to your garden can make a boring outdoor space look alive and enchanting with very little effort and cost.

I am constantly looking for different types of animals / creatures I can feature on my patio, next to pond or in my garden borders and would love to share these solar light ideas with you in this article.

One of my favourite reasons for using solar power for garden lighting is that I can easily rearrange the ornaments without re-wiring.  I am able to create monthly themes with my solar friends, a secret garden creature meeting perhaps? haha!

I have already covered Dog Solar Lights, and Cat Solar Lights - so I will not include them in this article :)

Squirrel Solar Light

I absolutely adore this little fella, love them or hate them you really can't deny that squirrels are cute!  This 22cm high squirrel solar light is made from resin meaning it will withstand harsh weather conditions allowing his acorn to shine brightly long into the night.

Pig Solar Light (metal)

The pig solar light is made from weather proof steel and has 6 hours of battery life after a full charge from the sun.  The colour changing LED creates exciting mesmerizing shadows on the ground around it. It's fairly light at 0.5kg (1.1lb), and sits 26.5cm high.

Ladybird / Ladybug Solar Lights

Absolutely adorable set of 4 lady bird solar lights, they are approximately sized around 10cm, and can be attached to s fence or wall in your garden.  Each ladybug insect has it's own individual solar panel and LED which should be placed in an area with good sunlight so it can fully charge throughout the day.

Sheep Solar Garden Light

The sheep garden solar light is made from durable metal with an IP45 waterproof rating.  The cute sheep nibbling on a flower sits at 22.5cm in height and has a colour changing mode meaning your metal garden animal friend can cycle through a range of colours (Red / Blue / Green).  The unique spiral metal body casts stunning shadows around the area wherever your place it in your garden.

Hand painted resin garden hedgehog will bring joy to even the most minimalistic of gardens. At 13cm in height, the cute hedgehog has 5 LED lights on his back inside flowers which once charged will start to light up at night using the stored suns energy.  This would make an amazing gift for any hedgehog collector.

Solar Powered Cockerel

A beautifully crafted painted metal garden ornament  in the style of a chicken / cockerel. The solar panel charges the batteries throughout the day and emits a sunning shadow on the floor at night. At 39cm in height, this is one of the larger solar animals listed in this article.  It's worth noting that it if you're planning to pop this little fella on your lawn to invest in some tent pegs to keep him secure when it's a little bit windy.

Elephant Solar Garden Light

The decorative elephant solar light is absolutely stunning!  Made from cut metal with 2 different lighting effects. You can choose either a static white light (as pictured above), or choose a rotating colour changing RGB effect.  The light cast through the swirly metal casing creates stunning shadows and will most likely be the talk of the street.  At a whopping 34cm in height (38cm length, 24 cm depth) choose a spot in your garden that receives a good chunk of sunlight throughout the day to fully charge the batteries.

Solar Butterfly Stake Lights

Sold as a set of 3 butterfly stake lights, each garden light is powered by it's own solar panel which sits further down the shaft.  During the day your butterflies will be charging and as the sun drops will start to produce stunning lights through both the upper plastic shaft and the butterfly itself.  The pointed stake will slide easily into your lawn or lightly gravelled areas of your garden giving a warming whimsical feel to your magical outdoor space.

Owl Solar Light

The ceramic owl outdoor solar lamp would look amazing on a patio.  Sitting at 9.5cm in height, it's quite small, but packs a punch with its beautiful olive green colourings. The solar panel sits on the back of the owl and charges the batteries throughout a sunny day, giving off a fairly bright white light through the chest of the owl at night.  Due to it's ceramic construction, I would not place this in an area where it risks falling / smashing - but it is really cute!

Dragon Solar Light

This absolutely stunning fire breathing red dragon reminds me so much of the Welsh dragon emblem!  With a solar panel to the rear, the 15cm winged dragon will charge during the days sunlight and light up at night through the red flame area.  Made from moulded resin, the cute dragon garden light would suit the patio or decking in your garden all year round.  This would make a great gift for anybody who loves Dragons (or anybody who loves Wales!)

Peacock Solar Light

  • Static White
  • Colour Changing RGB

Place your peacock solar lamp on your lawn, patio or around your pond (use tent pegs to secure in softer ground), then let the sun charge during the day for a stunning large glowing light at night.

Final thoughts from Professor Power

I hope you enjoyed my selection of solar animal lamps for your garden, I had great fun researching each of them.  I really do like the metal lamps - but purely because they look so posh during the day time.

I hope you liked this article, and if you would like to leave a comment - I would love to hear from you.

All the best,
